HOA: 20 Million People at Risk of Famine
VOA News - Dec 12, 2008 - The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies warns that 20 million people in the Horn of Africa are at risk of famine and that urgent action must be taken to avert a humanitarian catastrophe. The Federation is launching an emergency appeal for more than $80 million to help 3.5 million people during the next five years.
The Red Cross Federation says there is no major famine yet in the Horn of Africa. But it warns that millions of people are on the brink of starvation. And, if the world turns a blind eye, it says the same distressing skeletal images that appeared on nightly television in 1984 could reappear. Read More.
