There is a sense of despair in Marsabit town and the neighbouring villages, and it is not about the sweltering heat.
Hardly a day passes without reports of raids on Manyattas and raiders fleeing with droves of camel or herds of cattle.
In 2005, a military plane carrying MPs Mirugi Kariuki, Titus Ngoyoni, Bonaya Godan, Abdi Sasura and Guracha Galgalo, crashed on a hill, killing all of them. They had been on a peace mission to Marsabit.
Three years later, major communities living in the area - Borana, Gabbra and Rendille - are still suspicious of each other. The feuds among the pastoralist communities have largely been attributed to competition for pasture and water. Read More.
