Dibaba forced to go it alone - IAAF - September 7, 2008
Tirunesh Dibaba made an attempt to break her own World record for 5000m which she had set in Oslo's Golden League meeting in June (14.11.15). Dibaba was paced by Russian Anna Alminova in the first part of the race, passing 1km in 2:49.44, one second slower than the pace set in Oslo (2:48.08).
"I had been prepared to break the World record since ejing but it was still a good race. I am not disappointed", said Dibaba. "The 10,000 metres title in Beijing was very special because I set my record breaking the 30 minutes barrier. I have not yet decided if I will run in Stuttgart (World Athletics Final) next weekend." Defar completes Challenge double - BBC - September 7, 2008
Olympic bronze medallist Meseret Defar outpaced her rivals to win the Women's 5km Challenge in London's Hyde Park. The Ethiopian, who was third in the 5,000m in Beijing, clocked 15 mins 01 secs to cross the line first for the second year in a row. Read More.
