The Run for Oromia is offering one of the largest prize purses in Minnesota next to the Twin Cities and Grandma's Marathons. The race will be held on Saturday August 2, 2008 at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis. The 10K Race will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K Race will begin at 9:15 a.m.
The Oliqaa Foundation is proud to sponsor the first Run for Oromia Tournament. The Run for Oromia aspires to educate the world at large about the trials and tribulations of Oromo people and hopes to bring recognition to Oromo athletes' contribution in the world of athletics. Many Oromian athletes have become world renowned for their achievements in running, including Abebe Bikila (1960/1964 Olympic Gold Medalist in the Marathon), Darartu Tullu (1992/2000 Olympic Gold Medalist in the 10,000 meter race), and Fatuma Roba (1996 Olympic Gold Medalist in the Marathon). Several veteran Oromo athletes will be present at the race on August 2. Read More.
